In l990, Mr. Miroslav Cernosek became the chairman of
the club and the most successful and most famous era in the history of
tennis in Prostějov has begun. Mr. Milan Matzenauer helped the chairman
by his endless optimism and broad-mindedness; Mr. Ales Hilcer joined
them in the half of the ninetieth bringing economic pragmatism. Step by
step, the best tennis club in the Czech Republic has come into
existence; what is more, in a new facilitly with a centre court, tennis
hall, and a hotel. Besides the Youths Training Centre, Top Tennis Centre
works in the Prostejov club as we1l. Recently, the National Tennis
Centre, one of two in the Czech Republic, has begun to work there, too.
„When I look to the past, I think that the
fact we have always stuck together is the key-stone of our success.
Neither management, nor the owners never suppressed the leisure-time
tennis to the detriment of the tennis played in competitions. 0f course
our tennis journey has had its priorities but we have never forgotten
good tennis humour and friendly atmosphere. This is one of the reasons
why we have managed in getting over many problems,“ says Mr.
Cernosek. who - as the sports manager - brought top tennis stars to the
tennis club. Karel Novacek a pupil from Prostejov and Davis Cup
representative, belonged among the best clay courts tennis players at
his time, and he was the eighth in the ATP ranking! Player number one
Martina Hingis played in the club in Prostejov when she was e1even and
not only she but her mother Melanie as well have had a sincere and warm
relation to tennis in Hana region since that time!
In April 1994, the club has started to make
achievements among tennis officials. Mr. Milan Matzenaur was one of the
three candidates to the function of the Czech Tennis Association
president. In the end, Mr. Jan Kodes gave an indication of his
interest in this function. Mr. Matzenauer voted in favour of him. The
candidate from Prostejov finally became the chairman of the executive
committee of the Czech tennis and he had held this office for four
years.
In autumn 1994, the former Davis Cup representative
Jaroslav Navratil came to Prostejov. He participated in all the
extraleague titles in his function of the teams captain. The tennis
plavers managed to win it in June 1995 for the first time and a great
dream of tennis in Hana came true. Prostejov won the extraleague and
became the Czech champion in the competition of mixed teams.
